WELCOME OCTOBER

It's October - the last month of calm before the holiday scheduling storm kicks into gear.  Also, I'm glad we've moved on from September.  It felt like it was stretching on for forever.

Our big plans for this month involve a couple different visits from family, family photos with all of Brian's family (and my tripod / remote shutter release acting as photographer) and some Halloween related fun.  It should be a nice mixture of relaxation and activity.

My craft goal for the month is to piece together a quilt top and back for my sister.  I will be using one of the scores from Sherry Lynn Wood's book Improv Handbook for Modern Quilters.  I have my pieces cut and I ordered a replacement part for the part of my sewing machine that is missing - thanks to a certain 18 month old and his love for taking things apart.

I think I should be able to get it pieced by the end of the month, although it will require some diligence.  It will also require that I figure out some method of setting up my machine out of Eli's reach.  I haven't figured that part out yet.

Because this is a gift and I want it to be a surprise, I won't be sharing photos along the way but I will share the completed quilt after I gift it.

We've had plans to go to an apple orchard three times in September and have yet to actually make it there.  An orchard visit is on the "we for sure have to do this" list for the month.  I would also like to visit one of the smaller pumpkin patches in our area and take the kids to the Boo at the Zoo event.

And I'm sure we will fit in a few more projects and activities, but I'm hesitant to overfill our calendar so we will just wait to see what else the month brings us.
