ONE LITTLE WORD 2013 - DECEMBER

Today for tomorrow

My word of 2013 has been TOMORROW.

Before I get underway with my One Little Word for 2014, I wanted to look back at where my 2013 word and the phrase “Do something today to make tomorrow better” have taken me.

At the beginning of this year, I wrote, “My phrase is my reminder that I have a lot of big dreams that are not going to happen on their own. Work is necessary.”

Keeping up with blog posting, ending the year with a completed Project Life album and making progress toward alternate income streams all equal progress in the direction that I wanted to go.  Faithfully living on only Brian’s income has also been work.  But it is work that is well worth the sacrifice as it gives us peace in our decision for me to become a stay-at-home mama within the next year.  Big dreams are coming together piece by piece and day by day.

In reality, the biggest contributions I made to the tomorrows of the world are in my two little boys.  One still growing and kicking inside of me, the other working his way into discovering what this world is all about.  I have been (and continue to be) a far from perfect mama and perfection is not my expectation.  But, I do want my little guys to know love, to feel safe, to be curious, to be respectful and to find joy in each day.  We have miles to go, but we’re pointed in the right direction.

To keep it all in perspective and to keep myself from living in the minutiae, I have my Bigger Things book.  This was a project that started on a whim, but that has really helped me to see the progress that I make.  Taking time to consider where I am going and to look back at what I’ve accomplished keeps me motivated and keeps me moving.

Overall, “tomorrow” has served me well.  It has been my springboard for moving forward on things both big and small.  I am taking on a new word for 2014, but I’m pretty sure that “tomorrow” will stick with me for the long haul.
